Pay Off a Credit Card

One target card, minimums on the rest, extra cash that actually hits the balance

40 min7 photographed stepsBeginner

You will list every card, pick avalanche or snowball on purpose, automate the minimums so nothing goes late, send every extra dollar to one balance, and stop adding to the card you are killing. This is a payoff plan, not a balance-transfer daydream or a shame spiral.

What you'll learn

  • Why paying a little extra on every card is slower than one funeral at a time
  • Avalanche (highest APR) vs snowball (smallest balance) — pick one and shut up
  • Autopay at least the minimum on every card so a missed due date doesn't undo you
  • The card comes out of the phone wallet until the balance is gone

Inside this course

  • The list, not the vibeYou cannot pay off a fog. Names, balances, APRs, minimums, due dates on one page.
  • Pick a kill orderAvalanche saves the most interest. Snowball is easier if you need a quick win to stay in the fight. Both beat 'a bit on all of them'.
  • Automate the floor, then attackA late fee plus a penalty APR is a self-own. Minimums on autopay. Extra is a second payment you can see.
  • Stop feeding itA payoff plan with the card still in Apple Pay is a loop.

First steps from The list, not the vibe

See how every step looks — photo, checklist, and pro tips included.

Balance, APR, minimum, due date. Four columns. No mood column.
01One row per card

Open every issuer app or PDF. Write: name, current balance, APR, minimum payment, due date. Add store cards and 'buy now pay later' if they charge interest — they count.

Total the balances. That number is unpleasant. It is also the only honest starting line. Do not round down to feel better.

What you can actually throw at it
02What you can actually throw at it

From last month's real spending (or the budget course), circle leftover after housing, food, must-pays. That leftover is the extra payment. If it is $0, the extra is a sold thing, a canceled subscription, or overtime — not a hoped-for personality transplant.

If leftover is $0 and minimums already bounce, stop this course and call a counselor. Math does not care about grit.
