Free auto & mechanics tip: Arrow the same way, door shut, tabs seated (step 11 of 12 from "Wipers, Washer Fluid & Cabin Filter").

Slide the new filter in with the arrow matching the photo. It should fill the slot without a 1 cm gap on one side — if it does, you have the wrong part (too small) or it is folded. Close the plastic door until it latches. Lift the glovebox, squeeze the sides, seat the rear stop tabs into the dash, then clip the dampener back on. Open and close the glovebox twice. It should not fall to the passenger's shins.

If a tab is already cracked from a previous owner, a dab of plastic-compatible glue is a stopgap; the box still needs those stops or it will hang open on the first bottle of water you put in it. Do not overtighten any screws you removed — strip the plastic boss once and the glovebox rattles forever.
