Free tech & internet tip: Email: the skeleton key account (step 3 of 9 from "Two-Factor on Everything That Matters").

If someone owns your email they can reset every other service. Turn on TOTP or passkey on Gmail, Outlook, ProtonMail — whichever is your primary. Add a recovery email you also control, not a partner's address you cannot access in an emergency.

Apple ID / Google account: these gate your phone backup, photos, payment methods, and Find My. Enable the advanced protection or at minimum TOTP. Enroll a hardware key if the service supports it and you own one.

You'll need

  • Primary email: TOTP/passkey on
  • Apple/Google ID: advanced protection or TOTP
  • Recovery email: also secured
